Bryan Adams Unveils Video for Kiss Cowritten Track "War Machine"
Rock legend Bryan Adams has released a video for his version of "War Machine," one of two songs he co-wrote for Kiss for their 1982 album Creatures of the Night. This marks the second release from the duo’s collaboration, following the launch of "Rock and Roll Hell" earlier this month. The songs will be available on a double-A side vinyl single, which is available for pre-order now.
A Look Back at "War Machine"
"War Machine" follows the bass riff played by Gene Simmons, which ended up being the backbone of the song. Adams was inspired by a comic book character and created the title as an homage. The song was part of Kiss’ attempt to reconnect with their rock’n’roll past after experimenting with pop, disco, and prog in recent years. Creatures of the Night was their second outing with drummer Eric Carr after Peter Criss’ departure.
"War Machine" Remained a Fan Favorite
With Ace Frehley gone and Vinnie Vincent soon taking his place, guitar duties were handled by Bob Kulick, Robben Ford, Steve Farris, and Vinnie Vincent. Despite notable gaps in the late ’90s and late ’00s, "War Machine" remained a regular in Kiss’ set lists, including their last-ever show in New York on December 2, 2021. Discussing the song in 2021, Adams said, "Well, I’ve never seen them live. So I’m glad to hear it worked out."
The Collaboration
Adams reflected on the experience of working with Kiss, saying, "I was thrilled to work with them back then. I was a broke songwriter – it came at the perfect time." The song’s title was inspired by a comic book character, and Adams was trying to come up with a theme that could match the bass riff played by Gene Simmons.
