Pete Townshend Releases New Album, The Seeker: A Musical Reinvention of Hermann Hesse’s Siddhartha
In a exciting new project, Pete Townshend has collaborated with his wife, Rachel Fuller, to release a new album, The Seeker, a musical reinvention of Hermann Hesse’s classic novel, Siddhartha. The album, accompanied by an illustrated novel, promises to be a sweeping narrative that follows the journey of the young Siddhartha as he seeks self-discovery and enlightenment.
The Seeker: A Musical Story
The Seeker is a double album that sets new orchestral arrangements of familiar Who songs alongside original compositions written by Pete Townshend for a 1976 production of Siddhartha. The story is based on Hesse’s novel, which tells the tale of Siddhartha’s spiritual quest during the time of the Buddha.
The project’s website notes that the album will "follow the quest of the young Siddhartha as he embarks on a journey of self-discovery and enlightenment during the time of the Gautama Buddha." Accompanying the music will be an illustrated novel, authored by Fuller, with narration by Christopher Plummer and artwork by Emilia Wharfe.
The Seeker Cast
The Seeker features a star-studded cast of musicians and actors, including Pete Townshend as the Ferryman, South African multimedia artist Nakhane as Siddhartha, Elton John as Kamaswami, Emeli Sande as the River, Bollywood star Sunidhi Chauhan as Kamala, Layton Williams as Siddhartha’s son, Tyrone Huntley as Govinda, and Biddu as Siddhartha’s father. The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and choir will also be featured on the album.
