Legendary Rocker Jack Russell Passes Away at 63

Jack Russell, the iconic singer and co-founder of Great White, sadly passed away on August 15th at the age of 63. The musician had been dealing with health issues, including a diagnosis of Lewy body dementia and multiple system atrophy, which forced him to retire from touring earlier this year.

A Career Marred by Tragedy

Russell’s death was met with an outpouring of tributes from the rock community, with many paying respects to the singer’s remarkable talent and dedication to his craft. However, his passing also served as a reminder of the devastating nightclub fire that occurred during a Great White concert in 2003, which resulted in the loss of 100 lives. Despite being cleared of any wrongdoing, Russell was often unfairly blamed for the tragedy, which took a significant toll on his mental and emotional well-being.

Celebrating Russell’s Legacy

In the days following his passing, fans and fellow musicians took to social media to share their favorite memories of Russell and pay tribute to his incredible talent. READ MORE: Jack Russell, Great White’s Founding Singer, Dead at 63

Mark Kendall, co-founder and longtime bandmate of Great White, shared a heartfelt message on social media, recalling the ups and downs of their relationship. "As you can imagine, though the end of the road was rough and broken, it wasn’t always that way," Kendall wrote. "Jack and I shared amazing times and lived our dreams together! I choose to remember all the good times we shared on stage and off."

Cinderella frontman Tom Keifer remembered Russell as "an amazing, soulful singer and truly great person," while Night Ranger’s Jack Blades described him as "a true rock spirit." Dee Snider, frontman of Twisted Sister, took the opportunity to defend Russell, writing, "This man was vilified for a situation out of his control and tortured by the memories. He was not evil. And man could he sing!"

Remembering the Good Times

As tributes poured in, many rockers shared their favorite memories of Russell, including Poison’s Bret Michaels, who wrote, "To my friend Jack Russell, such an amazing voice. May you rest in peace." Ratt’s Stephen Pearcy recalled the early days of their careers, performing together on the Sunset Strip.
