The 1990s was a phenomenal decade for metal music. It was an era where the genre was evolving at breakneck speed, experimenting with new sounds, styles and techniques. The metal landscape was filled with pioneers pushing the boundaries of metalcore, death metal, nu-metal, and hardcore, giving birth to sub-sub-genres that defined a generation. As the grunge movement took off on the West Coast, alternative metal and post-pandemonium throngs surged from the East, crafting a sonic tapestry like no other. Some would argue that the raw talent and unbridled intensity of the 1990s metal scene left behind an indelible mark, forever changing the DNA of heavy music. Decades later, many of the bands that emerged during this era remain crucially relevant, reactivating the fervent noise of the 1990s.
