Refused Announce Impending Breakup and 2025 North American Farewell Tour
Punk rock legends Refused have announced that they are breaking up, but not before embarking on one final North American tour in early 2025. The Swedish hardcore band has been a staple of the punk scene for over three decades, and their announcement has sent shockwaves throughout the music community.
The Farewell Tour
The tour, which will feature support from Quicksand, kicks off on March 21st, 2025, in Brooklyn, New York, and runs through an April 10th show in Sacramento, California. The outing will hit cities such as Chicago, Los Angeles, Denver, and Seattle along the way.
"I’m not going to miss the constant touring, constant writing, constant performing, constant pressure," said frontman Dennis Lyxzén in a statement. "I’m going to miss the camaraderie with the band, the joy of creating something new and exciting, the thrill of performing live. But it’s time for me to take a break and recharge."
The Breakup
This is not the first time Refused have broken up. The band was inactive from 1998 to 2012, but reunited in 2012 and have since released several albums. This time, however, the breakup appears to be permanent, with the band jokingly dubbing their tour "Refused Are Fucking Dead… And This Time They Really Mean It."
The 25th Anniversary Edition of The Shape of Punk to Come
In addition to the tour, Refused is reissuing their classic 1998 album The Shape of Punk to Come as a 25th anniversary edition. The box set will include a disc featuring other bands covering the songs on the album, as well as a 5LP set featuring the album’s original tracks.
"It’s a great way for us to celebrate our anniversary and to give our fans something special," said Lyxzén. "It’s also a way for us to say goodbye, to leave a lasting mark on the punk scene and to give our fans a chance to experience our music one last time."

The box set will feature a 12-track disc called The Shape of Punk to Come Obliterated, featuring the following tracks:
